Dogecoin surges to dizzying heights amid TikTok hype
Oliver Knight
July 9, 2020, 6:27 am
Dogecoin, a longstanding staple of the cryptocurrency ecosystem, has been struck by a remarkably unexpected rally over the past 48-hours, with it now trading 82% higher against Bitcoin than it was two days ago.
The meme-friendly digital asset, which was created as a joke in 2013, has emerged as a target for millions of TikTok users that claim it will rally all the way to $1.
The #DOGE hashtag now has millions of posts on both TikTok and Twitter, with cryptocurrency exchanges responding by listing both futures and perpetual swap contracts of the cryptocurrency.
This morning Binance revealed that as of tomorrow customers can trade Doge/USDT with up to 50x leverage.
Bitfinex, meanwhile, announced that it will list MDOGE with a conversion rate of one million as it attempts to capitalise on the recent wave of hype.

While a coin like Doge pumping unsustainably may seem like fun, investors should be wary about using leveraged products as it massively increases the risk of liquidation.
To be clear, this is not financial advice but retail investors should be cautious about buying into an asset that has already made substantial gains on the back of a viral social media post, especially when Doge has been the recipient of a number of pump and dumps over the past two years.
Looking at Dogecoin’s chart, the current level of 50 sats has been a historical point of support and resistance dating all the way back to 2015, which means price may be halted here unless another wave of volume comes in.

Want to learn more about Binance Exchange? Read on!

Digital currency exchange market has a wide variety of choices. It is a hectic task to choose an exchange platform. This article will give you a walkthrough Binance Exchange platform. Also, it explains whether to use it to buy Crypto.
Binance is one of the most popular and fast growing exchanges in the cryptocurrency market. Every crypto trader has once heard about this exchange platform. Many users recommend using this trading exchange platform.
What is Binance Exchange?
Binance is a global cryptocurrency exchange. It provides a platform for trading mover100 cryptocurrencies. The list includes Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Binance Coin (BNB). Many are still being added regularly.
The name "Binance" is made up of a combination of the words binary and finance. Earlier it was termed as crypto-to-crypto trading platform. Binance exchange has gained immense popularity because it is a credible, reliable, secure and growing exchange. The platform provides low transaction fees, high liquidity, and additional discounts if users pay in the native BNB cryptocurrency tokens.
Just getting listed on Binance can provide a cryptocurrency with a temporary boost of 80 percent in market value. And being delisted from Binance is a black mark felt throughout the industry.
Binance trades in crypto-only exchange, and does not cater to fiat deposits.
Binance History
Binance is a Chinese company, founded in 2017 by Changpeng Zhao and Yi He. But since there were possibilities of China banning crypto transactions, the company shifted servers to Tokyo, Japan. Following a successful initial coin offering (ICO), Binance began live trading in July 2017. Binance now has offices in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Malta.
Binance also created its native token BNB. TBinanc created bBNB efore ICO and were sold instantly raising $15 million approx. The ICO also gained 20,000 registered users as part of the raise.
Binance introduced a Tiered Trading Fee Discount Program on July 21, 2018 that provides a bigger discount based on a user’s BNB coin balance
It also launched its own mainnet, called Binance Chain, on April 18, 2019, making it an all-purpose crypto and blockchain company.
Binance-X, an initiative for developers was launched in August 2019. This program will assist developers to develop applications on Binance blockchain.
As we write, Binance is all set to launch physically settled Futures trading in September 2019.
Why Should I Open A Binance Exchange Account?
Like any other standard exchange, it offers services around trading, listing, fundraising and delisting or withdrawal of cryptocurrencies. As said earlier, the platform provides low transaction fees with trading support for mover100 currencies. Also, Binance provides a crypto wallet for their traders, where they can store their electronic funds. Binance has their own token currency, Binance Coin.
Cryptocurrency enthusiasts willing to launch their own tokens use Binance for raising funds through initial coin offerings (ICO). Binance is used by many traders and participants for exchanging various cryptocurrencies, and for investments in the same.
How it works?
Binance comes with a Basic and Advanced view of the trading data. This helps novice as well as experienced traders to trade easily in cryptocurrencies. The main difference between the basic and the advanced version is that the advanced one offers detailed technical analysis of digital currency value

Binance Account and transactions
To trade, users have to complete the necessary KYC requirements. This provides a complete security to other users and gain their trust. After trading account creation, users can add cryptocurrency funds to the public wallet address provided by Binance to start trading. Time for verification may vary depending on the availability of the site support staff.
Once account is created, funds need to be added in the wallet. Users can visit the “Funds” > “Deposits / Withdrawals” link at the top of the site and find the currency they wish to send, then click the “Deposit” button. Once funds are added to the account, users can start trading - sending, receiving, exchanging cryptos in their Binance account.
Binance supports three types of orders: limit, market, and stop limit orders. Limit orders are executed only at the specific price set by the trader, market orders are executed at the best market price, while stop limit orders become valid orders only when the price reaches a specified level.
Binance does not charge for fund deposits but withdrawals come with a transaction fee. Trading fee is 0.1% but 25% will be discounted further if traded in BNB tokens.

Stablecoin War Intensifies As Huobi Issues $1,3 Million HUSD

Stablecoin War Intensifies As Huobi Issues $1,3 Million HUSD

Stablecoin Issuers Are Battling For Larger Market Share, While Tether Remains Stablecoin Leader
The race between stablecoin projects takes another step towards increasing competition, as crypto exchange Huobi minted a new batch of 1,3 million USD-backed HUSD tokens. Crypto exchanges like Binance and Huobi are also joining the race with their own stablecoin projects – the BinanceUSD (BUSD), and HuobiUSD (HUSD).
Despite a slow start, crypto exchange-issued stablecoins are increasing in popularity, with Binance making several increases of the total supply in circulation for its BUSD projects in 2020 alone. In early February, Binance issued five million BUSD tokens, in cooperation with PAX Treasury. Just a week after the 5 million BUSD issuance, a new batch of 10 million BUSD tokens entered into circulation. However, Binance is no more a lone warrior in the field of exchange-issued stablecoins, as Huobi also makes a turn towards entering the stablecoin war.
Huobi’s HUSD project was аnnounced in late 2018 when the entire crypto sector was in a bearish state. HUSD didn’t get much traction in 2019 and fell off the radar for stablecoin users. However, now Huobi seems to be reviving the project, putting in fresh HUSD tokens into circulation.
Firstly, at the beginning of February, Huobi issued five million HUSD tokens, divided into three batches of around 1,7 million tokens per batch. Crypto watchdog Whale Alert announced the news. Whale alert also noted that another batch of 1,3 million HUSD tokens entered into circulation on February 27th.
Despite Huobi and Binance jumping into the stablecoin race, Tether still dominates stablecoin transactions. Tether records $60-70 billion in daily trading volumes, while the world’s biggest cryptocurrency based on market capitalization, Bitcoin, recorded $10-15 billion less trading volumes.
One of the most vital selling points of Tether is that the stablecoin is primarily used to enter the crypto sector and buy leading cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, later. Crypto experts tied Tether’s behavior directly to Bitcoin’s price, as Tether’s minting process impacts Bitcoin’s market valuation.
The stablecoin war may also be provoked by Facebook’s plans of launching a native to the social media stablecoin, backed by a basket of currencies. The Libra project, however, caused real regulatory havoc. Furthermore, Telegram’s GRAM token would see further delays due to the continuing federal case, accusing Telegram of an illegal securities offering.
Central banks also showed interest in fiat-pegged digital currencies, with China and Sweden making moves toward issuing Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). China, for example, wants to tie its digital currency to the price of the traditional Renminbi, with plans to digitize China’s economy entirely.
Meanwhile, exchange-issued tokens and stablecoins marked the most significant price increases since the start of 2020. BitMax Token’s (BTMX) price jumped with 34,8%, while Binance Coin (BNB) managed to record a 31,39% price increase. Huobi’s native token – HT, marked a 25% increase.

Beginner’s Guide to BitMEX

Beginner’s Guide to BitMEX

Founded by HDR Global Trading Limited (which in turn was founded by former bankers Arthur Hayes, Samuel Reed and Ben Delo) in 2014, BitMEX is a trading platform operating around the world and registered in the Seychelles.
Meaning Bitcoin Mercantile Exchange, BitMEX is one of the largest Bitcoin trading platforms currently operating, with a daily trading volume of over 35,000 BTC and over 540,000 accesses monthly and a trading history of over $34 billion worth of Bitcoin since its inception.

https://preview.redd.it/coenpm4k3cc41.jpg?width=808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8832dcafa5bd615b511bbeb6118ef43d73ed785e
Unlike many other trading exchanges, BitMEX only accepts deposits through Bitcoin, which can then be used to purchase a variety of other cryptocurrencies. BitMEX specialises in sophisticated financial operations such as margin trading, which is trading with leverage. Like many of the exchanges that operate through cryptocurrencies, BitMEX is currently unregulated in any jurisdiction.
Visit BitMEX

How to Sign Up to BitMEX

In order to create an account on BitMEX, users first have to register with the website. Registration only requires an email address, the email address must be a genuine address as users will receive an email to confirm registration in order to verify the account. Once users are registered, there are no trading limits. Traders must be at least 18 years of age to sign up.
https://preview.redd.it/0v13qoil3cc41.jpg?width=808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6134bc089c4e352dce10d754dc84ff11a4c7994
However, it should be noted that BitMEX does not accept any US-based traders and will use IP checks to verify that users are not in the US. While some US users have bypassed this with the use of a VPN, it is not recommended that US individuals sign up to the BitMEX service, especially given the fact that alternative exchanges are available to service US customers that function within the US legal framework.
How to Use BitMEX
BitMEX allows users to trade cryptocurrencies against a number of fiat currencies, namely the US Dollar, the Japanese Yen and the Chinese Yuan. BitMEX allows users to trade a number of different cryptocurrencies, namely Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, Monero, Ripple, Tezos and Zcash.
The trading platform on BitMEX is very intuitive and easy to use for those familiar with similar markets. However, it is not for the beginner. The interface does look a little dated when compared to newer exchanges like Binance and Kucoin’s.
Once users have signed up to the platform, they should click on Trade, and all the trading instruments will be displayed beneath.
Clicking on the particular instrument opens the orderbook, recent trades, and the order slip on the left. The order book shows three columns – the bid value for the underlying asset, the quantity of the order, and the total USD value of all orders, both short and long.
The widgets on the trading platform can be changed according to the user’s viewing preferences, allowing users to have full control on what is displayed. It also has a built in feature that provides for TradingView charting. This offers a wide range of charting tool and is considered to be an improvement on many of the offering available from many of its competitors.
https://preview.redd.it/fabg1nxo3cc41.jpg?width=808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d939889c3eac15ab1e78ec37a8ccd13fc5e0573
Once trades are made, all orders can be easily viewed in the trading platform interface. There are tabs where users can select their Active Orders, see the Stops that are in place, check the Orders Filled (total or partially) and the trade history. On the Active Orders and Stops tabs, traders can cancel any order, by clicking the “Cancel” button. Users also see all currently open positions, with an analysis if it is in the black or red.
BitMEX uses a method called auto-deleveraging which BitMEX uses to ensure that liquidated positions are able to be closed even in a volatile market. Auto-deleveraging means that if a position bankrupts without available liquidity, the positive side of the position deleverages, in order of profitability and leverage, the highest leveraged position first in queue. Traders are always shown where they sit in the auto-deleveraging queue, if such is needed.
Although the BitMEX platform is optimized for mobile, it only has an Android app (which is not official). There is no iOS app available at present. However, it is recommended that users use it on the desktop if possible.
BitMEX offers a variety of order types for users:
  • Limit Order (the order is fulfilled if the given price is achieved);
  • Market Order (the order is executed at current market price);
  • Stop Limit Order (like a stop order, but allows users to set the price of the Order once the Stop Price is triggered);
  • Stop Market Order (this is a stop order that does not enter the order book, remain unseen until the market reaches the trigger);
  • Trailing Stop Order (it is similar to a Stop Market order, but here users set a trailing value that is used to place the market order);
  • Take Profit Limit Order (this can be used, similarly to a Stop Order, to set a target price on a position. In this case, it is in respect of making gains, rather than cutting losses);
  • Take Profit Market Order (same as the previous type, but in this case, the order triggered will be a market order, and not a limit one)
The exchange offers margin trading in all of the cryptocurrencies displayed on the website. It also offers to trade with futures and derivatives – swaps.

Futures and Swaps

A futures contract is an agreement to buy or sell a given asset in the future at a predetermined price. On BitMEX, users can leverage up to 100x on certain contracts.
Perpetual swaps are similar to futures, except that there is no expiry date for them and no settlement. Additionally, they trade close to the underlying reference Index Price, unlike futures, which may diverge substantially from the Index Price.
BitMEX also offers Binary series contracts, which are prediction-based contracts which can only settle at either 0 or 100. In essence, the Binary series contracts are a more complicated way of making a bet on a given event.
The only Binary series betting instrument currently available is related to the next 1mb block on the Bitcoin blockchain. Binary series contracts are traded with no leverage, a 0% maker fee, a 0.25% taker fee and 0.25% settlement fee.

Bitmex Leverage

BitMEX allows its traders to leverage their position on the platform. Leverage is the ability to place orders that are bigger than the users’ existing balance. This could lead to a higher profit in comparison when placing an order with only the wallet balance. Trading in such conditions is called “Margin Trading.”
There are two types of Margin Trading: Isolated and Cross-Margin. The former allows the user to select the amount of money in their wallet that should be used to hold their position after an order is placed. However, the latter provides that all of the money in the users’ wallet can be used to hold their position, and therefore should be treated with extreme caution.
https://preview.redd.it/eg4qk9qr3cc41.jpg?width=808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c3ca8cdf654330ce53e8138d774e72155acf0e7e
The BitMEX platform allows users to set their leverage level by using the leverage slider. A maximum leverage of 1:100 is available (on Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash). This is quite a high level of leverage for cryptocurrencies, with the average offered by other exchanges rarely exceeding 1:20.

BitMEX Fees

For traditional futures trading, BitMEX has a straightforward fee schedule. As noted, in terms of leverage offered, BitMEX offers up to 100% leverage, with the amount off leverage varying from product to product.
However, it should be noted that trading at the highest leverages is sophisticated and is intended for professional investors that are familiar with speculative trading. The fees and leverage are as follows:
https://preview.redd.it/wvhiepht3cc41.jpg?width=730&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0617eb894c13d3870211a01d51af98561907cb99

https://preview.redd.it/qhi8izcu3cc41.jpg?width=730&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09da4efe1de4214b0b5b9c7501aba5320e846b4c
However, there are additional fees for hidden / iceberg orders. A hidden order pays the taker fee until the entire hidden quantity is completely executed. Then, the order will become normal, and the user will receive the maker rebate for the non-hidden amount.

Deposits and Withdrawals

BitMEX does not charge fees on deposits or withdrawals. However, when withdrawing Bitcoin, the minimum Network fee is based on blockchain load. The only costs therefore are those of the banks or the cryptocurrency networks.
As noted previously, BitMEX only accepts deposits in Bitcoin and therefore Bitcoin serves as collateral on trading contracts, regardless of whether or not the trade involves Bitcoin.
The minimum deposit is 0.001 BTC. There are no limits on withdrawals, but withdrawals can also be in Bitcoin only. To make a withdrawal, all that users need to do is insert the amount to withdraw and the wallet address to complete the transfer.
https://preview.redd.it/xj1kbuew3cc41.jpg?width=808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68056f2247001c63e89c880cfbb75b2f3616e8fe
Deposits can be made 24/7 but withdrawals are processed by hand at a recurring time once per day. The hand processed withdrawals are intended to increase the security levels of users’ funds by providing extra time (and email notice) to cancel any fraudulent withdrawal requests, as well as bypassing the use of automated systems & hot wallets which may be more prone to compromise.

Supported Currencies

BitMEX operates as a crypto to crypto exchange and makes use of a Bitcoin-in/Bitcoin-out structure. Therefore, platform users are currently unable to use fiat currencies for any payments or transfers, however, a plus side of this is that there are no limits for trading and the exchange incorporates trading pairs linked to the US Dollar (XBT), Japanese Yen (XBJ), and Chinese Yuan (XBC).
BitMEX supports the following cryptocurrencies:
  • Bitcoin (XBT)
  • Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
  • Ethereum (ETH)
  • Ethereum Classic (ETC)
  • Litecoin (LTC)
  • Ripple Token (XRP)
  • Monero (XMR)
  • Dash (DASH)
  • Zcash (ZEC)
  • Cardano (ADA)
  • Tron (TRX)
  • EOS Token (EOS)
BitMEX also offers leverage options on the following coins:
  • 5x: Zcash (ZEC)
  • 20x : Ripple (XRP),Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Cardano (ADA), EOS Token (EOS), Tron (TRX)
  • 25x: Monero (XMR)
  • 33x: Litecoin (LTC)
  • 50x: Ethereum (ETH)
  • 100x: Bitcoin (XBT), Bitcoin / Yen (XBJ), Bitcoin / Yuan (XBC)

Trading Technologies International Partnership

HDR Global Trading, the company which owns BitMEX, has recently announced a partnership with Trading Technologies International, Inc. (TT), a leading international high-performance trading software provider.
The TT platform is designed specifically for professional traders, brokers, and market-access providers, and incorporates a wide variety of trading tools and analytical indicators that allow even the most advanced traders to customize the software to suit their unique trading styles. The TT platform also provides traders with global market access and trade execution through its privately managed infrastructure and the partnership will see BitMEX users gaining access to the trading tools on all BitMEX products, including the popular XBT/USD Perpetual Swap pairing.

The BitMEX Insurance Fund

The ability to trade on leverage is one of the exchange’s main selling points and offering leverage and providing the opportunity for traders to trade against each other may result in a situation where the winners do not receive all of their expected profits. As a result of the amounts of leverage involved, it’s possible that the losers may not have enough margin in their positions to pay the winners.
Traditional exchanges like the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) offset this problem by utilizing multiple layers of protection and cryptocurrency trading platforms offering leverage cannot currently match the levels of protection provided to winning traders.
In addition, cryptocurrency exchanges offering leveraged trades propose a capped downside and unlimited upside on a highly volatile asset with the caveat being that on occasion, there may not be enough funds in the system to pay out the winners.
To help solve this problem, BitMEX has developed an insurance fund system, and when a trader has an open leveraged position, their position is forcefully closed or liquidated when their maintenance margin is too low.
Here, a trader’s profit and loss does not reflect the actual price their position was closed on the market, and with BitMEX when a trader is liquidated, their equity associated with the position drops down to zero.
In the following example, the trader has taken a 100x long position. In the event that the mark price of Bitcoin falls to $3,980 (by 0.5%), then the position gets liquidated with the 100 Bitcoin position needing to be sold on the market.
This means that it does not matter what price this trade executes at, namely if it’s $3,995 or $3,000, as from the view of the liquidated trader, regardless of the price, they lose all the equity they had in their position, and lose the entire one Bitcoin.
https://preview.redd.it/wel3rka04cc41.png?width=669&format=png&auto=webp&s=3f93dac2d3b40aa842d281384113d2e26f25947e
Assuming there is a fully liquid market, the bid/ask spread should be tighter than the maintenance margin. Here, liquidations manifest as contributions to the insurance fund (e.g. if the maintenance margin is 50bps, but the market is 1bp wide), and the insurance fund should rise by close to the same amount as the maintenance margin when a position is liquidated. In this scenario, as long as healthy liquid markets persist, the insurance fund should continue its steady growth.
The following graphs further illustrate the example, and in the first chart, market conditions are healthy with a narrow bid/ask spread (just $2) at the time of liquidation. Here, the closing trade occurs at a higher price than the bankruptcy price (the price where the margin balance is zero) and the insurance fund benefits.
Illustrative example of an insurance contribution – Long 100x with 1 BTC collateral
https://preview.redd.it/is89ep924cc41.png?width=699&format=png&auto=webp&s=f0419c68fe88703e594c121b5b742c963c7e2229
(Note: The above illustration is based on opening a 100x long position at $4,000 per BTC and 1 Bitcoin of collateral. The illustration is an oversimplification and ignores factors such as fees and other adjustments.
The bid and offer prices represent the state of the order book at the time of liquidation. The closing trade price is $3,978, representing $1 of slippage compared to the $3,979 bid price at the time of liquidation.)
The second chart shows a wide bid/ask spread at the time of liquidation, here, the closing trade takes place at a lower price than the bankruptcy price, and the insurance fund is used to make sure that winning traders receive their expected profits.
This works to stabilize the potential for returns as there is no guarantee that healthy market conditions can continue, especially during periods of heightened price volatility. During these periods, it’s actually possible that the insurance fund can be used up than it is built up.
Illustrative example of an insurance depletion – Long 100x with 1 BTC collateral
https://preview.redd.it/vb4mj3n54cc41.png?width=707&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c63b7c99ae1c114d8e3b947fb490e9144dfe61b
(Notes: The above illustration is based on opening a 100x long position at $4,000 per BTC and 1 Bitcoin of collateral. The illustration is an oversimplification and ignores factors such as fees and other adjustments.
The bid and offer prices represent the state of the order book at the time of liquidation. The closing trade price is $3,800, representing $20 of slippage compared to the $3,820 bid price at the time of liquidation.)
The exchange declared in February 2019, that the BitMEX insurance fund retained close to 21,000 Bitcoin (around $70 million based on Bitcoin spot prices at the time).
This figure represents just 0.007% of BitMEX’s notional annual trading volume, which has been quoted as being approximately $1 trillion. This is higher than the insurance funds as a proportion of trading volume of the CME, and therefore, winning traders on BitMEX are exposed to much larger risks than CME traders as:
  • BitMEX does not have clearing members with large balance sheets and traders are directly exposed to each other.
  • BitMEX does not demand payments from traders with negative account balances.
  • The underlying instruments on BitMEX are more volatile than the more traditional instruments available on CME.
Therefore, with the insurance fund remaining capitalized, the system effectively with participants who get liquidated paying for liquidations, or a losers pay for losers mechanism.
This system may appear controversial as first, though some may argue that there is a degree of uniformity to it. It’s also worth noting that the exchange also makes use of Auto Deleveraging which means that on occasion, leveraged positions in profit can still be reduced during certain time periods if a liquidated order cannot be executed in the market.
More adventurous traders should note that while the insurance fund holds 21,000 Bitcoin, worth approximately 0.1% of the total Bitcoin supply, BitMEX still doesn’t offer the same level of guarantees to winning traders that are provided by more traditional leveraged trading platforms.
Given the inherent volatility of the cryptocurrency market, there remains some possibility that the fund gets drained down to zero despite its current size. This may result in more successful traders lacking confidence in the platform and choosing to limit their exposure in the event of BitMEX being unable to compensate winning traders.

How suitable is BitMEX for Beginners?

BitMEX generates high Bitcoin trading levels, and also attracts good levels of volume across other crypto-to-crypto transfers. This helps to maintain a buzz around the exchange, and BitMEX also employs relatively low trading fees, and is available round the world (except to US inhabitants).
This helps to attract the attention of people new to the process of trading on leverage and when getting started on the platform there are 5 main navigation Tabs to get used to:
  • **Trade:**The trading dashboard of BitMEX. This tab allows you to select your preferred trading instrument, and choose leverage, as well as place and cancel orders. You can also see your position information and view key information in the contract details.
  • **Account:**Here, all your account information is displayed including available Bitcoin margin balances, deposits and withdrawals, and trade history.
  • **Contracts:**This tab covers further instrument information including funding history, contract sizes; leverage offered expiry, underlying reference Price Index data, and other key features.
  • **References:**This resource centre allows you to learn about futures, perpetual contracts, position marking, and liquidation.
  • **API:**From here you can set up an API connection with BitMEX, and utilize the REST API and WebSocket API.
BitMEX also employs 24/7 customer support and the team can also be contacted on their Twitter and Reddit accounts.
In addition, BitMEX provides a variety of educational resources including an FAQ section, Futures guides, Perpetual Contracts guides, and further resources in the “References” account tab.
For users looking for more in depth analysis, the BitMEX blog produces high level descriptions of a number of subjects and has garnered a good reputation among the cryptocurrency community.
Most importantly, the exchange also maintains a testnet platform, built on top of testnet Bitcoin, which allows anyone to try out programs and strategies before moving on to the live exchange.
This is crucial as despite the wealth of resources available, BitMEX is not really suitable for beginners, and margin trading, futures contracts and swaps are best left to experienced, professional or institutional traders.
Margin trading and choosing to engage in leveraged activity are risky processes and even more advanced traders can describe the process as a high risk and high reward “game”. New entrants to the sector should spend a considerable amount of time learning about margin trading and testing out strategies before considering whether to open a live account.

Is BitMEX Safe?

BitMEX is widely considered to have strong levels of security. The platform uses multi-signature deposits and withdrawal schemes which can only be used by BitMEX partners. BitMEX also utilises Amazon Web Services to protect the servers with text messages and two-factor authentication, as well as hardware tokens.
BitMEX also has a system for risk checks, which requires that the sum of all account holdings on the website must be zero. If it’s not, all trading is immediately halted. As noted previously, withdrawals are all individually hand-checked by employees, and private keys are never stored in the cloud. Deposit addresses are externally verified to make sure that they contain matching keys. If they do not, there is an immediate system shutdown.
https://preview.redd.it/t04qs3484cc41.jpg?width=808&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3b106cbc9116713dcdd5e908c00b555fd704ee6
In addition, the BitMEX trading platform is written in kdb+, a database and toolset popular amongst major banks in high frequency trading applications. The BitMEX engine appears to be faster and more reliable than some of its competitors, such as Poloniex and Bittrex.
They have email notifications, and PGP encryption is used for all communication.
The exchange hasn’t been hacked in the past.

How Secure is the platform?

As previously mentioned, BitMEX is considered to be a safe exchange and incorporates a number of security protocols that are becoming standard among the sector’s leading exchanges. In addition to making use of Amazon Web Services’ cloud security, all the exchange’s systems can only be accessed after passing through multiple forms of authentication, and individual systems are only able to communicate with each other across approved and monitored channels.
Communication is also further secured as the exchange provides optional PGP encryption for all automated emails, and users can insert their PGP public key into the form inside their accounts.
Once set up, BitMEX will encrypt and sign all the automated emails sent by you or to your account by the [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) email address. Users can also initiate secure conversations with the support team by using the email address and public key on the Technical Contact, and the team have made their automated system’s PGP key available for verification in their Security Section.
The platform’s trading engine is written in kdb+, a database and toolset used by leading financial institutions in high-frequency trading applications, and the speed and reliability of the engine is also used to perform a full risk check after every order placement, trade, settlement, deposit, and withdrawal.
All accounts in the system must consistently sum to zero, and if this does not happen then trading on the platform is immediately halted for all users.
With regards to wallet security, BitMEX makes use of a multisignature deposit and withdrawal scheme, and all exchange addresses are multisignature by default with all storage being kept offline. Private keys are not stored on any cloud servers and deep cold storage is used for the majority of funds.
Furthermore, all deposit addresses sent by the BitMEX system are verified by an external service that works to ensure that they contain the keys controlled by the founders, and in the event that the public keys differ, the system is immediately shut down and trading halted. The exchange’s security practices also see that every withdrawal is audited by hand by a minimum of two employees before being sent out.

BitMEX Customer Support

The trading platform has a 24/7 support on multiple channels, including email, ticket systems and social media. The typical response time from the customer support team is about one hour, and feedback on the customer support generally suggest that the customer service responses are helpful and are not restricted to automated responses.

The BitMEX also offers a knowledge base and FAQs which, although they are not necessarily always helpful, may assist and direct users towards the necessary channels to obtain assistance.
BitMEX also offers trading guides which can be accessed here

Conclusion

There would appear to be few complaints online about BitMEX, with most issues relating to technical matters or about the complexities of using the website. Older complaints also appeared to include issues relating to low liquidity, but this no longer appears to be an issue.
BitMEX is clearly not a platform that is not intended for the amateur investor. The interface is complex and therefore it can be very difficult for users to get used to the platform and to even navigate the website.
However, the platform does provide a wide range of tools and once users have experience of the platform they will appreciate the wide range of information that the platform provides.

The man claims that AT&T staff allowed a hacker to access his mobile phone number, leading to the theft of over USD 1.8 million worth of cryptocurrencies from accounts at a number of cryptocurrency exchanges. Meanwhile, Crypto Capital is accused by Bitfinex of losing USD 880 million of fund the exchange entrusted it with. As reported this week, the parent company of Bitfinex, iFinex Inc., has filed an application for discovery in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Southern California on October 18, 2019. iFinex claims that the discovery concerns its attempts to recover the aforementioned USD 880 million which the company allegedly wasn't able to access from December 2018 at least.

Per Fisco, via Gentoshoa, the parties want to work on a new solution that would allow Japanese phone owners to use their mobile-based payment applications at stores overseas, and enable inter-carrier transactions.
  • Though adoption is far from widespread, a rising number of Americans own crypto, according to a survey of 2,068 participants commissioned by Finder, an independent comparison platform and information service. In the last year, the survey says, the number of respondents who own a cryptocurrency has almost doubled from 7.95% in 2018 to 14.4% in 2019, which is an increase of 81% in one year. The average total in crypto that each is holding is USD 5,447, while the median amount of crypto in American digital wallets is just USD 360, claims the survey.
  • ConsenSys Space, a subsidiary of blockchain company ConsenSys, has announced the launch of a new satellite tracker based on Ethereum’s network - a project called TruSat. China Continues To Tighten The Rope On Chinese Crypto Entrepreneurs

China Continues To Tighten The Rope On Chinese Crypto Entrepreneurs

Despite The Calls For Blockchain Adoption, Chinese Regulators Are Pushing Crypto-Related Businesses Into Shutdown
Chinese regulators are "cleaning up" the domestic crypto market, as at least five local exchange platforms halted operations until further notice. Regulators issued several notices and warnings regarding crypto trading.
The news comes despite China's President Xi Jinping's assurance his government would boost the development of blockchain technology.
One of the leading social media platforms in China, Weibo, already shut down all accounts linked to Binance and TRON.
The actions from last week are the biggest crackdown on crypto regulations since the ICO ban in 2017. And while fiat-to-crypto exchanges are still officially banned, the over-the-counter (OTC) sector is thriving, and people are reverting to crypto-to-crypto actions, with Tether as a gateway for entering the crypto world.
The pressure also would affect Bitcoin's shaky price from last week. The world's #1 crypto tumbled with almost $1,000 in price in a matter of a week, despite its 6% rebound from Wednesday. The crackdown could lead to massive investor insecurity in the Asia-Pacific market, which accounts for over 40% of the total bitcoin transactions in the first half of 2019.
Two more Chinese crypto-related exchange operators stated they shut down operations - the Bitsoda and Akdex trading platforms. And while Chinese crypto companies are slowly fleeing the regulatory havoc, users are more interested in protecting the crypto assets they possess. Crypto holders are transferring their exchange-based crypto assets into both hardware and software wallets. One of the largest Chinese wallet apps, ImToken, reported a rapid increase in their Tether transactions. People use Tether as a haven for cryptocurrency value, as Tether is tied to a fiat currency like the U.S. Dollar.
One of the most influential names in Asia's crypto space - TRON's founder Justin Sun, brightened up the situation by stating that despite the regulatory crackdown, the current market state in China is still very positive. "If we look at the situation in the short-term, however, we expected much more progress than now," Sun added.

BCH nov15-dec15 update . BCH moves along and claims its #4 place back on CMC

https://news.bitcoin.com/hash-wars-bch-proponents-face-a-new-dawn-in-the-battles-aftermath/

35 days later after the fork, Bitcoin Cash supporters are working towards moving past the hash war that took place a little after the scheduled BCH upgrade on Nov. 15. Now both networks are operating and the Bitcoin Satoshi’s Vision (BSV) coin has its own price ticker and market capitalization listed on data sites like Coinmarketcap and Satoshi Pulse. A portion of crypto-trading platforms have now listed BSV as a separate currency and the entire ecosystem of exchanges, payment processors and a great majority of wallets have awarded the ABC side of the chain the BCH ticker. At the time of writing, the global average price for BCH is $144 after markets jumped 47 percent on Dec. 19. BSV spiked 18 percent this Tuesday and each coin is currently trading for $92 per token.

Since the fork, the BCH network hashrate has dropped considerably, even more so than the 50 percent loss BTC suffered this past month. Average hashrates for a great number of SHA-256 algorithm coins have endured deep drops in processing power according to global statistics. The Bitcoin Cash hashrate used to command a rough average of 5 exahash per second (EH/s), but now only captures 1 EH/s to 850 petahash per second (PH/s) on a daily basis throughout this month.

On the bright side, the BCH network has been 5-8 percent more profitable to mine than BTC over the last two days. Further, BCH has amassed a large swathe of different mining pools that are processing BCH blocks on a regular basis. This includes Viabtc, Btc.com, Antpool, Multipool, Bitcoin.com, Btc.top, Waterhole, Copernicus, P2pool, Ckpool, and some other unknown mining entities as well.

Another BCH metric that has halved since the fork on Nov. 15 is the cryptocurrency’s daily transaction rate over the last month. Before, bitcoin cash transactions per day were about 20,000-25,000, whereas today that number stands at roughly 9,750 over the course of the last 24 hours. Over the last three weeks, the BCH daily transaction rate has been averaging 10k per day, with a few instances of 15k-22k spikes here and there. There has been a steady increase in daily transactions week after week, and with 99 percent of BCH infrastructure back in order, this should continue.

A good example of this behavior is the increase in BCH price and trade volume on exchanges over the last few weeks. Pre-fork BCH trade volumes captured anywhere between $400-900 million worth of global trades every day. After the fork, this statistic dropped to around $50-100 million daily on global exchanges. This was because some cryptocurrency trading platforms with a ton of bitcoin cash liquidity had paused BCH transactions and some exchanges halted trading. Week after week, however, global BCH trade volume has been steadily increasing on exchanges like Upbit, Binance, Huobi, Lbank, and Coinbase Pro. With the 40 percent increase over the last 24 hours, BCH trade volume has jumped to over $400 million in global trades on Dec. 19. At the time of publication, this makes BCH the seventh most traded digital asset out of the entire crypto economy.

The Bitcoin Cash community had also suffered from daily battles on Reddit’s btc forum and social media platforms like Twitter. A good portion of the trolling and infighting seems to have quietened down, and most BCH supporters are just trying to move forward. There’s been plenty of developments since the fork, with projects like Electron Cash, Honest Cash, Cash Shuffle, and Openswap adding more utility to the BCH network. Furthermore, BCH enthusiasts look forward to the upcoming BCH upgrades that are under discussion and they can track the code’s development too. For now, BCH supporters are extremely pleased that the fork is behind them and are thrilled to reclaim fourth position among all cryptocurrency market capitalizations.

General Comments: There have been a mix bag of news coming out over the last 24 hours. In general there have been both positive and negative news but for choice the market seems concerned more about the negatives (eg. some exchanges giving in to Japanese regulator pressure). BTC broke below USD6'000 again in extremely light volumes (USD11 billion according to Coinmarketcap in the last 24H). More time will be needed to escape the doldrums and turn the tides.

Daily Performances
General Comments: Most of the top ten coins are seeing a mild recovery. EOS and IOTA have seen the largest gains, respectively trading up 6.08 and 4.34% over the 24h. Total market cap is around USD247 billion, up almost 6% from this week’s low on June 24 of USD235 billion. However, the reverse ban on crypto advertisement by Facebook had no impact on the cryptocurrency markets in any way in the short-term. Unless the volume of major digital assets spike up in the next 24 to 48 hours, it is unlikely that the market initiates a large corrective rally and loses more value in the short-term.

Daily Performances
With BTC traversing below the psychological USD6'000 level and temporarily breaching USD5'800, this consummates the USD5'000 to USD20'000 round trip since the rally starting November of 2017. The market has since recovered above 6'000 but the recent price action can be described as a slow motion bleed out in thin volumes and a lack of large participation. There have been a multitude of news catalysts, mostly negative, that could have caused this such as continued exchange hacks, regulatory tightening, and most recently negative price action from the much hyped EOS. As can be seen from extremely low option implied vols, none of the recent moves indicate any level of panic. As we approach summer it is possible we see a prolonged period of doldrums, but external geopolitical and economic factors could be a catalyst for a turn in the market.

Technical Analysis - BTC
We saw a big reversal on Sunday, a lot of it seemed to be fuelled via short covering on BitMEX, where we saw sizeable short liquidations and a marked decrease in open interest on the swap. At the moment the movement remains a short term bounce and we remain in a downtrend on the daily chart, a close above 6'800 would change our bearish view and turn it into bullish.

Question for coinbase users: Did you guys know about the exchange adding Bitcoin cash ahead of announcement?

I'm asking this because I thought what coinbase did on that whole debacle was in bad form. I've been having some back and forth with another individual in another subreddit that stated that it was well known there was an API change that the online community was well aware of. From the backlash I saw on twitter and other social media outlets this wasn't the case. From what I saw the vast majority of coinbase users were unaware of this transition happening and were even more upset when after bitcoin cash was pumped, coinbase halted trading on their GDAX exchange after 4 minutes and people were unable to sell to take advantage of this. It was also stated that its very common for exchanges to not give any notice to their customers when they would be adding another currency for trade, in which I stated binance actually has votes within their community to see what new coins would be added to that exchange. So I don't know, I guess I have a lingering respect for the little guy that gets taken advantage of by big companies.
So did you guys know for a fact this was happening ahead of time beyond any faint rumors?

Understanding the Impact of Cryptocurrency Exchanges on the Market & Modern-Day Economy

Understanding the Impact of Cryptocurrency Exchanges on the Market & Modern-Day Economy

The year 2018 and part of 2019, saw the fall of several ‘revolutionary’ crypto projects which eventually led to the delisting of tokens from the cryptocurrency exchanges. The primary reasons given for this included lack of liquidity, usage issues, as well as lack of regulatory abidance by the delisted tokens. On October 2, 2019, Financemagnates released a thorough analysis of the causes and consequences of the situation. This article is all about our take on the published report.
In 2017, the bullish market induced tens of thousands of new investors into the crypto market who were attracted by the lucrative high return of initial coin offerings. Though, with the market downfall, the focus turned to the blockchain technology. This unfavorable situation gave a golden opportunity to the crypto exchanges to yield an amount as high as $15 million dollars from crypto and blockchain projects for listing their tokens and allowing the investors to trade their currencies. These payments of the whopping amount to the exchanges are a basic element for the development of a project, as it leads to the exchange of the token in periods succeeding to the fundraising.
However, with the advent of 2018, the declining prices, plummeting interest rates, and diminishing trade volumes buried all the revolutionary projects into the debris. The present volumes, as per the CoinMarketCap reveals that out of the suite of more than 2900 registered assets, there are nearly sixty cryptocurrencies that generate a volume of more than $10 million dollars in a day. Owing to such complex situations, cryptocurrency exchanges gave a nod to delist the trading pairs that didn’t have substantial liquidity. Recently, Binance broadcasted that with an aim to improve liquidity and user trading experience, it would delist thirty trading pairs soon.
Liquidity threat is not the only reason for the exchanges to drop the assets as sometimes some decisions are not taken considering only professional parlance.
The Bitcoin Gold development team was revealed to receive real threats from Bittrex to stay listed. BTG development team published that Bittrex conveyed to them that they made this decision because the BTG team would not pay 12,372 BTG to Bittrex in lieu of the loss they accrued after the double-spend attack on May 19.
Such a case was also reported by UnikoinGold which was threatened to be delisted in absence of artificial manipulation of the trading volume.

Effects of Regulatory Pressure

Stringent regulatory policies and government control in countries around the world serve as crucial reasons for the crypto exchanges to delist a currency. The U.S. has strengthened the control of digital assets through its policies in the year 2019. Poloniex declared to halt the trading of nine altcoins in the U.S market space from May 29, 2019.
The Asian regulators laid focus primarily on privacy tokens like Dash and Monero. With the intergovernmental organization, Financial Action Task Force, strengthening the regulatory terms, crypto exchanges, OKEx and Upbit has announced the delisting of the main privacy coins from their platform to abide by the FATF guidelines.
Amid these hot-shot cases of delisting of cryptocurrencies from the exchanges, the most talked about and hyped delisting case of the year is about Bitcoin SV. Binance was the first exchange to delist the coin. The exchange stated that the reason behind the decision is based on the periodic reviews of the listed tokens concerning commitment towards project, communication, quality level, and revert to requests. However, the rumors suggest that the real reason was more personal than merely professional.
In April 2019, Craig Wright sued individuals who refused to accept him to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the founder of Bitcoin. Binance’s CEO, Changpeng Zhao didn’t go on with the accusations without showing a strong reaction. His step was followed by numerous exchanges that delisted Bitcoin SV leading to a 6% loss for the coin in a few minutes after the release of the news.

Is It Censorship Or A Warning?

Delisting of cryptocurrencies gave rise to a conflicting situation in the digital currency space as some people fear that, this delisting leads to censorship by a cartel of exchanges while some argue that BSV delisting brings negative returns for the customers of the exchange. In counter, exchanges reveal that such drastic steps are taken in accordance with the regular controls they employ on the tokens listed so that the customers can enjoy the best trading experience.
The claims of censorship can hold a stand only if these exchanges were public which is not the case as they are private and have full right to set barriers as per their wish. The exchanges are free to list or delist any asset as per their choice, though, there is always a centralized power controlling these exchanges.
It is crucial for the entities to work out on cryptocurrencies that are not solely dependent on the exchange platform as this will lead to the failure of the project in the long run.

Has Binance been hacked? Top cryptocurrency exchange is investigating after a leak of alleged user data, confirms a $3.5 million extortion plot

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 74%. (I'm a bot)
One of the world's biggest cryptocurrency exchanges says it has launched an investigation after an "Unidentified individual" threatened to leak a trove of its customer data.
Binance, which ranks as the top exchange by volume traded, said in a company statement today that the individual had demanded 300 bitcoin-the equivalent of more than $3 million-to halt the release of 10,000 photos showing "Know your customer" data from the organization.
"We would like to inform you that an unidentified individual has threatened and harassed us, demanding 300 BTC in exchange for withholding 10,000 photos that bear similarity to Binance KYC data," the firm said in a release today informing the community of the situation.
The stolen data is "Directly related" to a major Binance hack last year, CoinDesk reported.
"There are inconsistencies when comparing this data to the data in our system," Binance said.
On Twitter today, some accounts are sharing links which purport to offer a way to check if Binance customers have been impacted, which could potentially result in more data theft or compromise, according to industry commenters.

Why I'm all in on BNB and maybe not crazy

You may remember my post a few weeks back: Yes, You Should Buy Some BNB.
At that time, BNB had just started holding above 0.0019-20 BTC, a level it failed to hold three times. The timing was not the primary reason for investing, but it made the decision urgent. The price subsequently rose to roughly 0.0026 BTC and now appears to be settling into a floor around 0.0020-21. They say resistance becomes support, ceilings become floors. Historically for BNB, the downtrend normally ends before hitting the former ceilings. If there was ever a time to of all in, I think now is it… so I did.
Figured this would be a good time to dive a bit deeper on why I’m so ultra bullish on BNB.
Charisma - Binance feels deeply charismatic to me. It’s a word I didn’t think of in investing until this Peter Thiel interview. Binance strikes me as especially charismatic. Investors largely love Binance as a product and as a company. A lot of this charisma comes from the trust people have in Binance. CZ recently spoke about how Binance now has a “2-hour rule” which is where they update the community every two hours. You may not have known about this exact rule, but you probably have felt it and you certainly have read CZ now-famous “funds are safe.” This expression is so pervasive that you see people racing to comment with it. Bizonaci made this masterpiece which introduced the spelling “safu,” or as CZ recently said Binance is the “safust.” I mean shit, look how calm things were with BNB after after an unexpected SYStem wide freeze. The market stayed calm and BNB is the largest exchange… Let me repeat, Binance—the world’s largest exchange of trustless assets—had to emergency halt trading and the entire market is NBD… The morning after, Jackson Palmer tweeted this sentiment summary, Sherman Lee posted this beautiful piece in Forbes, and Binance announced S.A.F.U. as an official part of their commitment to protect investors.
Antifragile - Antifragile is a concept Nassim Taleb coined to describe things that get stronger with stress. Binance seems to strengthen with bad news. When China last banned exchanges, Binance up and moved to Malta and the price soared. Now Binance is in three countries/jurisdictions and probably entering more. These emerging crypto hubs are competing for epic tax revenues, especially relative to their size. If the EU were to push Malta for more regulation, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Malta leave the EU. After all, is Malta better off with Binance, EOS, et al or with the EU? The latter may still be true but it’s increasingly less clear cut. This puts it in a position of incredible strength when it comes to negotiation, staying automomous, and gaining the government cooperation to build financial bridges across the world. In short, I see Binance as having a real shot as delivering on it’s mission of financial freedom. Exchange the world.
Adoption - BNB is rapidly gaining adoption. In the past few months, we’ve seen small exchanges list BNB. In the last week, this pace has increased dramatically as Bitmex and Metamask have joined the BNB party. YouTubers and the Twitter sphere seem to be talking about BNB more frequently. The $1B impact fund is to be denominated in BNB and a team member noted in the recent Binance Labs AMA that partners will be able to accept payments in BNB. New coins have already been paying Binance humungo checks to gain access to Binance’s user base; if Binance pulls of Binance Chain DEX (powered by BNB), they’re going to compete at the ERC20 level for the ICO market, at least to some extent. It’s still unclear what Binance Chain will look like, but the support volume is definitely more compelling than other DEXes would be launching with. ICOs numbers are holding strong and Binance continues to be the most attractive place to list. Moreover, with the recent investment ChiliZ, founded by Alexander Dreyfus (founder of e-gaming companies), Binance has demonstrated an interest in the broader speculation market, which basically is crypto right now… and Binance hasn’t even introduced options/futures…
Team - The Binance team seems truly world class to me. A good chunk of my last post was about the team (and CZ’s fly-af shorts), but one thing I did not say last time was the value of CZ’s cult-leadership. Don’t get me wrong, I consider this a double edged sword much like ETH and nearly every coin but BTC has. But on the positive edge, this gives Binance an incredible edge when it comes to execution, recruiting, and a ultimately achieving their vision. You can feel the team support for CZ; you can see it in this video and in Binance’s recent staff re-tweet. I also think not enough of my last post was about the community manager(s) who I feel are killing it compared to other subreddit mods.
Market - IMO the market will mostly bounce around/move sideways for some time and Binance will make money either way. There may be big moves up but I expect them to be met with significant resistance. Technical analysis is a major driver of price action in crypto specifically because most coins/token have no underlying value (i.e. it is largely emotional responses). As such, alts will continue to have trading value even if they lose a lot of expectation-based value. After all, look how many alts recently went up 20-30%. Get rich quick sentiment has not dried up nearly to the degree some people say. Maybe I’m following the wrong people, but I haven’t seen anyone talk about Bitcoin being “dead”—only people talking about people talking about it being dead. Do you really think Tron and IOTA will die any day now? No, you don’t. The FOMO and FUD are real and the firepowereserve capital many alts have is massive. If a mostly sideways market plays out, then profit chasing will increasingly turn to algo trading, which Binance is well positioned for. In a recent interview, CZ mentioned Binance is planning to expand it’s capacity by 100-1,000x to prepare for a massive increase in usage, and he said it before the algo traders temporarily broke Binance’s API… Okay, but let’s say it’s not like this, let’s say there’s a major breakdown in alts much sooner (maybe everyone realizes Lightning makes a XRP useless). In this case, I expect Convert-to-BNB to do quite well given how many alts are on Binance (especially those who paid to show up because they were so shitty they couldn’t get the crowd to vote for them). Moreover, if you’re losing your life savings and BNB continues to grow, many investors are going to try to an dig themselves out of a hole by selling for BNB. Either way, BNB probably has a bright future.
Q3 - Right now, BNB is performing poorly because of the sell the news paradigm crypto seems to operate under. But at about this time last quarter BNB was at peak BTC and ETH value. Compared to last quarter, we’re two weeks ahead, which would make this bottom somewhere between yesterday and next weekend. The growth during the last quarter was also sharper than this quarter, suggesting less to fall, and I suspect the hype train is going to be larger this cycle as rumors of the DEX become more imminent. There’s also extra worry this quarter because the market assumes Binance’s profit will be lower and the second year discount will be lowered (50% BNB discount —> 25% off with BNB discount). I sense that these fears are already priced in. For starters, Binance hasn’t shot up directly after the great quarterly news; why would it shoot down on bad news, especially if it is expected? Regarding the discount, 25% is still better than 0% off, so people should keep using it (especially if the BNB they’re holding is appreciating), and for the next year, Binance should be making 50% more profit (before they made 0.05%, now they will make 0.075% profit). I believe the sentiment on this concern is oversold when the math appears way better to me.
Concerns - With all this in mind, I do still have a few concerns. For instance, what do Binance founders/team plan to do with their 100M coins as the BNB supply approaches 100M supply? Will they sell a-la Charlie Lee or will their sell-off be more pre-meditated a la Ripple’s 55mo escrow release? In theory as the price of BNB rises, it will take longer for the supply to get to 100M so this question could be a ways off, but I still would prefer clarity over this (even if it relies on trust). There’s some sentiment concern that the 1/5 vesting coming up will cause a large sell off. I assume inside folk see world-dominating growth ahead given the recent all-star Binance Labs hires, but still would be nice to understand this risk better. Finally, perhaps my largest concern is will Binance have an EOS moment with the freezing functionality laid out in the DEX competition requirements? I can certainly envision a decentralized use and Binance has demonstrated doing the right thing when they take emergency action, but I want to share the concern nevertheless.
Deflationary - One concern I do not have with with BNB but recognize others do is about the utility of BNB after the discount goes to 0. Binance says BNB will be used as gas in the eventual Binance Chain DEX. This gives it utility, and unlike other blockchains, Binance already has usage demand. So, if you think any altcoin has value, then BNB—at the DEX stage and without a discount—has value. Beyond dominating trading utility (a huge industry use case), BNB has a decent store of value argument (the other huge industry use case). Unlike most coins/token have unreleased supply for inflation, fees, etc., BNB supply is already fully diluted. While BTC expands its supply for some time to come, BNB will be lowering its supply through the burn. Sure, people lose BTC which is a deflationary force, but I suspect this will become less common as wallet tech improves and the industry matures. To be clear, I don’t think BNB and BTC are otherwise comparable and I don’t think BNB (or any coin/token) will replace BTC. But, BTC has demonstrated that investors want stores of value, so whether your thesis is high usage will appreciate or store of value will appreciate, BNB checks both boxes.

Buy and Hold 100 Cryptocurrencies for 5 years - Week 5 - $2553 gained

It’s the 5th week since the experiment has started and a lot has been happening, I actually wonder to know if during the 5 years of the experiment there is going to be a quiet week. The crypto world has been bombarded by FUD, first with China banning the miners, then with South Korean ban on the exchanges, all this caused the price of Bitcoin (BTC) to go as low as $13,105.90 USD. As if it wasn’t enough, Warren Buffet said that “Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies will come to a bad end”. All these caused also the altcoins price to go on a rollercoaster, but today seems like most of them are bouncing back. To go into details about the experiment, the overall gain is $2533 USD (253%) or 0.19 BTC. Only 10 Cryptocurrencies are in minus since the beginning of the experiment and 3 of them have reached a gain of over 1000 %. Let’s talk about our Top5 cryptocurrencies. Tron (TRX) is also for this week the best gainer. Five weeks ago I bought 2500 TRX with $10.04. 2500 TRX are worth now $275.48, a gain of 2644.83 % Justin Sun, founder of Tron. Announced this week a new cooperation with Bao Feng, and been teasing about a cooperation with an innovative space company. Verge (XVG) finally released to so waited Wraith protocol. The price has been stable and 1 XVG is now worth $0.15 , I first bought it 5 weeks ago at $0.0079. Vechain (VEN) is the first new entry on the Top5, looking at the chart it has been rising for over one month. In fact, when I bought it 5 weeks ago, I got with $10.11 , 18 (VEN), at the time the price was of $ 0.56 , right now the price is $6.24, so the 18 VEN is now worth $112.48 a major gain of 1012.14 %. The other new entry on the Top5, sitting at the 4th position is Binance Coin (BNB), it’s been a while since BNB has been performing well, not sure about the exact reason, but it could be connected by the fact that Binance volume keeps growing massively. BNB can be used as trading fee option on Binance, doing so it lowers the trading fees from 0.1 % to 0.05%. Binace volume has been that high that they could barely keep up and had to halt a few time the sign up of new users. From a recent tweet, they announced that they got over 5 Million users! Ripple (XRP) is having again a big momentum, yesterday MoneyGram signed a deal with them announcing that it will use it to speed up their transitions. I believe this is one of the biggest wins for Ripple so far. Top 5 cryptocurrencies so far : Tron (TRX) +2644.83 % , from $10.04 to $275.48 Verge (XVG) +1794.52 % , from $9.62 to $182.25 VeChain (VEN) +1012.14 % , from 10.11 to $112.48 Binance Coin (BNB) +914.17 % , from $9.99 to $99.48 Ripple (XRP) +837.01 % , from $9.75 to $91.34

The default minimum transaction fee rate was reduced from 0.001 to 0.0001 DCkB. Do not try to send such small fee transactions just yet, until the majority of the network upgrades.
Release process was changed to use release branches and bump version on the master branch at the beginning of a release cycle. Discussed in this chat.
The codebase is ready for the new Go 1.11 version. Migration to vgo module system is complete and the 1.4.0 release will be built using modules. The list of versioned modules and a hierarchy diagram are available here.
The testnet was reset and bumped to version 3.
Comments are welcome for the proposal to implement smart fee estimation, which is important for Lightning Network.
@matheusd recorded a code review video for new Decred developers that explains how tickets are selected for voting.
dcrwallet: Version 1.3.0 RC1 features new SPV sync mode, new ticket buyer, new APIs for Decrediton and a host of bug fixes. On the dev side, dcrwallet also migrated to the new module system.
Decrediton: Version 1.3.0 RC1 adds the new SPV sync mode that syncs roughly 5x faster. The feature is off by default while it receives more testing from experienced users. Other notable changes include a design polish and experimental Politeia integration.
Politeia: Proposal editing is being developed and has a short demo. This will allow proposal owners to edit their proposal in response to community feedback before voting begins. The challenges associated with this feature relate to updating censorship tokens and maintaining a clear history of which version comments were made on. @fernandoabolafio produced this architecture diagram which may be of interest to developers.
@degeri joined to perform security testing of Politeia and found several issues.
dcrdata: mainnet explorer upgraded to v2.1 with several new features. For users: credit/debit tx filter on address page, showing miner fees on coinbase transaction page, estimate yearly ticket rewards on main page, cool new hamburger menu and keyboard navigation. For developers: new chain parameters page, experimental Insight API support, endpoints for coin supply and block rewards, testnet3 support. Lots of minor API changes and frontend tweaks, many bug fixes and robustness improvements.
The upcoming v3.0 entered beta and is deployed on beta.dcrdata.org. Check out the new charts page. Feedback and bug reports are appreciated. Finally, the development version v3.1.0-pre is on alpha.dcrdata.org.
Android: updated to be compatible with the latest SPV code and is syncing, several performance issues are worked on. Details were posted in chat. Alpha testing has started, to participate please join #dev and ask for the APK.
iOS: backend is mostly complete, as well as the front end. Support for devices with smaller screens was improved. What works now: creating and recovering wallets, listing of transactions, receiving DCR, displaying and scanning QR codes, browsing account information, SPV connection to peers, downloading headers. Some bugs need fixing before making testable builds.
Ticket splitting: v0.6.0 beta released with improved fee calculation and multiple bug fixes.
docs: introduced new Governance section that grouped some old articles as well as the new Politeia page.
@Richard-Red created a concept repository sandbox with policy documents, to illustrate the kind of policies that could be approved and amended by Politeia proposals.

Almost 69% of nodes are v.1.2.0 and higher and support client filters. Data snapshot of Aug 31.

ASICs

Obelisk posted 3 email updates in August. DCR1 units are reportedly shipping with 1 TH/s hashrate and will be upgraded with firmware to 1.5 TH/s. Batch 1 customers will receive compensation for missed shipment dates, but only after Batch 5 ships. Batch 2-5 customers will be receiving the updated slim design.
Innosilicon announced the new D9+ DecredMaster: 2.8 TH/s at 1,230 W priced $1,499. Specified shipping date was Aug 10-15.
FFMiner DS19 claims 3.1 TH/s for Blake256R14 at 680 W and simultaneously 1.55 TH/s for Blake2B at 410 W, the price is $1,299. Shipping Aug 20-25.
Another newly noticed miner offer is this unit that does 46 TH/s at 2,150 W at the price of $4,720. It is shipping Nov 2018 and the stats look very close to Pangolin Whatsminer DCR (which has now a page on asicminervalue).

Integrations

www.d1pool.com joined the list of stakepools for a total of 16.
Australian CoinTree added DCR trading. The platform supports fiat, there are some limitations during the upgrade to a new system but also no fees in the "Early access mode". On a related note, CoinTree is working on a feature to pay household bills with cryptocurrencies it supports.
Three new OTC desks were added to exchanges page at decred.org.
Two mobile wallets integrated Decred:
Reminder: do your best to understand the security and privacy model before using any wallet software. Points to consider: who controls the seed, does the wallet talk to the nodes directly or via middlemen, is it open source or not?

Markets

DCR started the month at USD 56 / BTC 0.0073 and had a two week decline. On Aug 14 the whole market took a huge drop and briefly went below USD 200 billion. Bitcoin went below USD 6,000 and top 100 cryptos lost 5-30%. The lowest point coincided with Bitcoin dominance peak at 54.5%. On that day Decred dived -17% and reached the bottom of USD 32 / BTC 0.00537. Since then it went sideways in the USD 35-45 / BTC 0.0054-0.0064 range. Around Aug 24, Huobi showed DCR trading volume above USD 5M and this coincided with a minor recovery.
@ImacallyouJawdy posted some creative analysis based on ticket data.

Stock Exchange Vs Cryptocurrency Exchange

The stock market in its early days was an iconic financial era that boomed and allowed early enthusiasts an opportunity to be apart of something destined to increase ones financial stabilty. If you were around during these times and took advantage of the early investments, it would be safe to say you have millions, if not billions worth of shares. Some of the largest stock exchanges that circulates many countries finaicial wealth, are NYSE, and NASDAQ.
While traditional investors like Warren Buffet see cryptocurrencies as a speculative bubble, they seem to forget that the stock market during it's earlier days when the East Indies was a haven of riches and traded goods through the transportation of ships; it to resembled what critics called cryptocurrency trades now. (WILD WILD WEST). Pirates would steal the commodities off the ships that were used to transport and trade goods. In effort to reduce profit loss, investors began investing in more than one ship. Hence the term " Don't put all your eggs in one basket ". In modern times now, we have electronic trades such as the NASDAQ, but it too can be pirated by hackers. Still, investors like CEO of JP Morgan Chase chooses to keep their wealth within these systems, and continue to buy, sell , and trade shares of many companies.
This produces a very lucrative and profitable ecosystem of retaining and circulating fiat currency. It is said that exchanges have even thought of merging with other exchanges.
So why would these big stock market whales look at bitcoins as a bubble, and not an opportunity to make a profit. Simply because it decreases the value of what they created, or inherited, invested, and flourished with.
Ironically, Bitcoin survives through fiat cash, and altcoins, survive through bitcoins. It would make more sense for stock exchange investors to dabble with cryptocurrncies, which in return will create an even larger financial ecosystem that is not just dependent on one type of financial infrastructure or exchange. Cash to bitcoins, bitcoins to ethereum, ethereum to altcoins, and finally cashing out again for cash. This will create a sustainable. Recyclable cash flow system.
Sure, cryptocurrencies need to be regulated and checked so no one power can become a super power. For example what the NASDAQ did with the circuit breaker rule, where as , if the percentage of stock markets dropped really low, the the trading options are halted for a time period. And the government placing IRS tax regulations on citizens. This will only cause some traders to minimize cash outs, and make more long term investments.
NOW..... many ICOs will fail, just like the DOT com bubble. And yes you can make a few hundred dollars from ICOs that have no potential future. However, one must really look info the dynamics of the way technology, businesses, supply chain, and financial institutions are looking for a secure and stable way to flourish.
I am a crypto trader, but I would not rule out the stock market. People forget that blockchain is the tech behind the cryptocurrncies we hold. So who holds the key to building block chains? Obviously tech companies like IBM, Microsoft etc. SO IT WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO GET YOUR TECH STOCKS AND SHARES UP BEFORE CRYPTOCURRENCIES REALLY TAKE OFF.
You see these companies that invest in blockchain start ups, get a profit from every cryptocurrency platform that uses their tech.
Another good imvestement to look into are exchange websites that offer coins. For example, Binance coin BNB, was selling for 1.67 cents in December of 2017, and is now worth almost $20 In January 2018. Similar to the way investors began investing into the stock exchanges that regulated other company shares, people are making profits from investing into an exchange site.
One site you can begin investing in now, as it is in its early stages is called BITSHARES and is being sold for just 50 cents. This is a good time to buy, as the exchange site will only grow as will their coins.
Lastly, one should invest in companies that are offering something new and innovative. One company that peaked my interest is sirin labs, and their FINNY phone. Look into this, as it will be competing with companies like Apple and Samsung. #ARC20R #Bitcoins #altcoins #binance #bitshares #exchange

@Rhythmtrader – “$124 billion dollars of wealth has been stored on the bitcoin network, and not withdrawn, for an entire year. Over 10.5 million Bitcoin hasn't moved in one year. That's about 60% of all bitcoin. Hodling will turn bank accounts into the landlines of today, nonexistent. 🔥”
@lopp – “There's one perspective that Bitcoin need not do anything else in order to become a global reserve currency: all it needs to do is nothing as it watches other systems inevitably fail under the follies of fickle fallible humans.”

Verge , again 2nd best crypto on "Buy and Hold 100 Cryptocurrencies for 5 Years" Week 5
